It is well known that architecture, along with indoor and outdoor design, creates an appealing and functional villa, holiday home, or vacation apartment. Every detail matters, and each space tells its own design story. Design elements also play a vital role in marketing tourist and hospitality properties. Attractive hotels, villas, holiday homes, and vacation apartments are like treasure chests filled with storytelling ideas – perfect for selfies, social media videos, blog posts, and travel articles.

So, where should you start when designing a hotel, villa, holiday house, or vacation apartment? One of the first steps is to consider the desires and needs of your potential guests – including everything from color palettes and materials to furnishings and hotel amenities.

All design choices should reflect your guests’ preferences. Lighting, interior design, and decor work together to create an atmosphere that welcomes guests, inviting them to stay a while, relax, and enjoy themselves.

In this article and the other four, we guide you through trends in designing villas, vacation homes, and holiday apartments on creative examples from five projects by renowned Croatian interior designers, members of the Community of Interior Designers (Zajednica dizajnera interijera – ZADIN) – a professional association that includes interior designers, decorators, stylists, architects, landscape architects, garden designers, and other design enthusiasts.

The modern yet rustic Villa Lesina is situated in the charming Vrboska on the lovely island of Hvar. Vrboska is often referred to as “Little Venice” due to its numerous bridges.

“The owners wanted to design the villa with natural furniture, exclusive charm, warmth, and quality materials. The spacious villa, on three floors, is surrounded by a garden. It offers an intimate courtyard with a hot tub, inspiring you to relax in the pool surrounded by greenery and old stone walls.”

“An unusual detail is that the villa consists of two houses, connected by a bridge with a sitting area from which you can observe the night sky with a telescope. It is a meeting place, the central part of the property that has a special energy at night, when everything is quiet.”

“The Villa Lesina is adorned with four beautiful terraces facing the four sides of the world, where each has a purpose at a certain time of year and is related to a type of pleasure. Guests can choose whether they want to be by the pool, barbecue, kitchen, or jacuzzi. A stay in this villa provides a feeling of freedom of movement, connection with nature, stimulation of various senses, inspiring each guest to find their own quiet corner for relaxation or entertainment.” – told us eco-interior designers and Feng Shui consultants Lana Anderson (Domus Decorum) and Mejra Mitrovich (Green Deposit), who, with their holistic approach, ecological awareness and energy sensitivity, created Villa Lesina where guests can relax and dedicate themselves through stimuli from nature.
