It is well known that the architecture and design of the interior and exterior spaces create a beautiful and functional villa, holiday home, or vacation apartment. Every detail matters, and every space is a design story. Design elements also play a key role in the marketing of tourist and hospitality facilities. Attractive hotels, villas, holiday homes, and apartments are treasure chests full of storytelling ideas – for selfies and videos for social media, blog posts, and travel articles.

So, where to start when designing a hotel, villa, house, or vacation apartment? Among the first steps, consider the wishes and needs of potential guests – everything from color palettes and materials to furnishings and hotel amenities.

All design decisions should be made with anticipation of the wishes and needs of potential guests. Lighting, interior design, and decor create an atmosphere that welcomes your guests and invites them to stay a while, relax, and have fun.

In this article and the next four articles, we guide you through trends in the design of villas, vacation houses and holiday apartments on the creative examples of five projects by renowned Croatian interior designers, members of the Community of Interior Designers (ZADIN) – a professional association that brings together interior designers, decorators, stylists, architects, landscape architects, garden designers and other design enthusiasts.

The holiday home in Privlaka near Nin is vertically divided into two similar apartments. The ground floor of each apartment is designed following the open space concept. Openness of interior spaces is among the top trends in interior design, along with nature motifs on wallpapers and various decorative elements. Industrial-style details are also among the trendy design elements in these vacation apartments.

“The clients wanted contemporary-designed apartments with industrial design elements. It was necessary to provide enough storage space, but at the same time, make the space airy and spacious. The floor covering is LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles) in an old oak decor, which gives warmth to the white walls and black pieces of furniture. All furniture is custom-made, and the dining tables are created of real wood and decorative resin in black.”

“Wallpaper adorns the bedrooms, giving them warmth, and special attention was paid to the lighting fixtures in all rooms. The bathrooms are designed with ceramics that imitate concrete with black details, giving the space a touch of sophistication. The apartments are fully equipped, the look is rounded off with details, and the atmosphere will be taken care of by those who will stay in the apartments,” interior designer Kristina Šitum revealed to us, adding that “her goal is to transform each space into a unique and functional work of art.”
