The Central Event of the Olive Growing Scene in Istria

The central manifestation of the Istrian olive growing scene, along with the solid foundations of tradition, brings other novelties in addition to a new name.

For the first time, the ISTRAVIRGIN festival will be held on the premises of the former city school, which will bring an element of Vodnjan tradition, but also modernity, to the event and will become a place for business and private meetings in a pleasant and hospitable environment.

“Istrian olive growers and oil producers have long since confirmed the golden status of their extra virgin olive oil at the world level. With this year’s edition of ‘ISTRAVIRGIN – days of young olive oil’, we want to ensure an opportunity for all of them to present and exhibit their products to numerous visitors, who we hereby invite to come to Vodnjan and enjoy a varied program, as well as the tasting of top-quality olive oils.”

“In a completely unexpected and new environment, we want to offer the oil growers, as well as the general public, a unique opportunity to promote and taste top-quality products and to enjoy the never-before-seen contents of a festival with a long tradition, which has a bright future ahead of it”, said Edi Pastrovicchio, Mayor of the City of Vodnjan.

The great novelty of this year’s edition of the festival, which honors Istrian olive growers and oil producers who are recognized and awarded all over the world, will be a specially designed professional program.

Masterclasses by Top Chefs and Cooking Shows

During the festival, top chefs will reveal the secrets of how premium extra virgin olive oil elevates gastronomy to a higher level through several culinary masterclasses intended for journalists, bloggers, oil producers, and all visitors.

In addition to the masterclass events, a real cooking show will take place in the kitchen, which is separate from the exhibition areas, in which, in addition to selected gastronomic experts, oil producers will also participate, who will show together that extra virgin olive oil is not just a seasoning for dishes, but a basic ingredient and the crowning glory of good food as well as both traditional and contemporary cuisine.

This year, the organizers are preparing numerous educational and entertainment activities, and visitors will also have access to other top gastronomic and enological products from Istria. The focus of this year’s “ISTRAVIRGIN – Days of Young Local Olive Oil” will be especially on the Istrian oil mills, which will symbolically, by placing them in the central exhibition area, be the focus of the event.

“The world’s top location for the production of extra virgin olive oil.”

“We invite our olive growers and oil producers from all over Istria to join us in creating a unique global story and further strengthening the position of Istrian olive oil and this region at the world level. ISTRAVIRGIN is the central manifestation of the olive-growing scene of Istria, which is the world’s top location for the production of extra virgin olive oil, which obliges us to work together on the promotion of this exceptional product and symbol of our region, which deserves diamond status in every respect,” said Mayor Edi Pastrovicchio.

The organizer of ISTRAVIRGIN is the City of Vodnjan – Dignano with its partners – the Tourist Board of the City of Vodnjan and the Agroturist Vodnjan Association, while the sponsors of the festival are the County of Istria as well as the Tourist Board of the County of Istria.

This prestigious manifestation of a long tradition in a refreshed guise and a new ISTRAVIRGIN name will gather thousands of visitors during the last weekend of November, who will have the opportunity to taste this autochthonous top product in the center of one of the most awarded olives growing regions in the world.
