In the classical stylistic epochs, there was the perspective that “more is better”, while in modern furniture design, elegance is read from a simpler expression, followed by the idea of “less is more”.
No matter what design direction they prefer, interior and exterior design fans eagerly expect April every year to visit a place where they can see modern and classical interiors, as well as various “theme variations”.
At this year’s International Furniture Fair in Milan, “Salone del Mobile.Milano”, which made this Italian capital of design and fashion even more spectacular from 4th to 9th of April, trends, and innovations have been presented in the design of interior and exterior spaces. Residential, as well as commercial furniture designs, attracted the attention of all the visitors.
Renowned companies and designers from all over the world gave us insight into their creative thinking, whether it’s furniture, lighting, decorative fabrics, or various decorative accessories for the home or office.
Every Salone del Mobile.Milano consists of several themed events. Some of these events are present every year, and some are biannual (“Euroluce” – lighting fixtures, “Workplace3.0” – office and commercial spaces, “Eurocucina” – kitchen furniture and appliances, “The International Bathroom Exhibition” – ceramics and sanitary ware).
This year, visitors had the chance to see the novelties of more than 2,000 exhibitors, which were presented at the five events: “Salone Internazionale del Mobile”, “The International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition”, “Euroluce”, “Workplace3.0” and “SaloneSatellite”, featuring young designers and design students.
Let’s also mention that this year, “SaloneSatellite” celebrated the 20th anniversary of the presentation of young hopes of design and that this year’s theme was a quest for a response to the question “DESIGN is …?”
Office and Commercial Design Trends – Thinking Outside the Box
“Workplace3.0”, in its 18th edition, delivers trends and innovations in designing offices, banks and post offices, public spaces of various profiles, etc.
It is precisely the area of workplace design that has been significantly influenced by the mobile lifestyle, brought to us by a number of technological achievements. In today’s online world, the workplace can be almost everywhere – in a car, at home, in a garden or park, and even on a beach.
All of the mentioned inspires designers to design business spaces that are “outside the box”. Creativity and mobility are some of the characteristics of offices of the future.
Lighting Design Trends – Innovation and Energy-Saving Solutions
“Euroluce”, in its 29th edition, brings everything needed to illuminate the interior and exterior, home and office – with an emphasis on energy-saving and environmental protection.
The lighting fixtures vary from those minimalist or embedded in walls and furniture, over those we can freely call sculptures that draw attention with their form and function, to crystal chandeliers in a more contemporary or traditional variant.
All in all, every time I visit Salone del Mobile.Milano, I feel like a kid in a candy store – there are so many great things to see.
