The Ladybug House
Located in the Bodrum region of Turkey, the Ladybug House was designed by the prestigious Turkish interior designer and architect Yesim Kozanli and her eponymous agency.
Situated on a 7,500 m2 plot (8 acres) overlooking the Aegean Sea, this modern project encompasses two guest houses, a pool house, multiple terraces, and a greenhouse area, each meticulously designed to offer an unparalleled living experience.
Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, and Modernism
Drawing inspiration from the serene principles of Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, and Modernism, Ladybug House embodies simplicity, functionality, and elegance. The primary objective was to create a spacious and rejuvenating sanctuary, where natural light interplays with the expansive spaces, fostering a strong connection to nature. Ladybug House harmoniously merges with its natural surroundings through a combination of glass, stone, concrete, and wood, accentuated by warm grey tones.
The innovative one-story monoblock structure, with a combined total area of 2,000 m2, maximizes contact with nature and makes airy and private living spaces. The protrusions in the steel roof add a sculptural depth to the architecture, creating shaded and illuminated areas while maximizing the panoramic views of the landscape.
Embracing Sustainability as a Core Principle
Yesim Kozanli Architecture & Interior Design embraces sustainability as a core principle; the Ladybug House incorporates eco-conscious features such as solar panels and architectural solutions such as rainwater harvesting. The design embraces the natural sloping topography of the site, allowing for natural ventilation. The resulting rubble was reused as raw material in the landscaping. The utilization of organic materials and smart home technology is eco-friendly and energy-efficient.
Blending the Boundaries Between Indoor and Outdoor
Designed to blend the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, the Ladybug House features operable facades and sliding doors, allowing seamless transitions between the interior and exterior spaces. The 4.5-metre ceiling height fosters an expansive living environment, creating a serene oasis for the owners.
The Ladybug House transcends the boundaries of conventional architecture, offering a symphony of design, nature, and sustainability. From its sculptural silhouette to its seamless living spaces, every aspect of the project reflects Yesim Kozanli Architecture & Interior Design’s commitment to excellence and a deep reverence for the environment.
