An Homage to the Creative Icons
Building on the impressive response to Meyer’s original 19 portraits in the DIFFA Heroes Portrait Gallery created in 2015, the Heroes Tour 2016 has grown to include 50 portraits – an homage to the creative icons who were some of the first victims of AIDS. Knowledge of these innovative pioneers’ existence and contributions have been lost to younger generations. These Heroes hail from the worlds of art, design, film, and dance – with a heavy contribution from interior design.
All the portraits are realized with unique conceptualizations and materials by Meyer, giving each its own character and the appearance of being created by individual artists. The portraits are influenced and driven by the stylized forms of medallions, cameos, intaglios, sculpted and carved busts, embellished with drawing, painting, collage, and sculptural elements.
The portraits are richly documented with historical information and achievements of each Hero.
