Current trends in interior design regularly change, but when it comes to arranging the child’s room, there are constant imperatives – functionality, playfulness, and imagination, with a touch of pleasant colorfulness!
How to Design a Children’s Room – Architect’s Tips
Decorating the child’s room is a challenge both for the children and their parents, who must return to the days of their own childhood in order to fully understand what they have already forgotten and create a pleasant environment for working, learning, and playing. Considering that the whole story revolves around children, they must be involved in the process of decorating the room. Whether you consult with experts or read literature to educate yourself further on this subject, do not forget that the kids are the ones who need to give the last word on the desired colors or shapes that will dominate the space.

Child’s Room Furniture Ideas
Selection of the basic elements of a child’s room, such as a bed, wardrobe, bookcase, desk with chair, etc., must be adapted to the requirements and capabilities of the space, and the age of the child. The position of the work desk will be dictated by the position of the window and the available light from the front or left side (for right-handed). The head of the bed should not be placed next to a heater, and it is not recommended to be placed close to the window. Bookshelves and cabinets should be placed in such a way that they free the central part of the room for play and entertainment.
The functionality of the child’s room can be seen in how easily the space can be transformed from a place of work and learning to a place of fun and games. Special practical and design solutions offer different versions of mobile furniture, which allows easy transformation of space and the creation of free zones for playing. This kind of furniture is a great solution for decorating rooms for children of different ages, because the existing compositions of furniture can easily be upgraded or freed from unnecessary elements.
Mobile furniture is especially practical in cases where one room is used for sleep, lounge, and study by two or three children. The lack of space is often the cause of such solutions, which, with proper selection of furniture, can result in high-quality decoration, in which each child will feel comfortable and cared for in its own corner for sleeping and learning.
Cheerful and Playful Color Palette
Cheerful and playful colors are indispensable elements of children’s rooms. Blue, green, yellow, red, orange, pink, white, purple … each one is desirable in this environment! While in the other parts of the living space we recommend the use of up to three different colors, in the child’s room you can safely play with four colors, by choosing the two dominant ones and applying the others on smaller details. The use of dark and tan colors is not recommended for this area, because it does not have a stimulating effect on the child’s psyche.

In addition to the color play, it is very fashionable to use heroes from cartoons or comics, which take their place on the fronts of cabinets, beds, and other furniture pieces. The dynamics that they introduce are of great importance for creating a complete atmosphere and a unique design solution tailored for your little ones. If they are of an age when these heroes are very important, give them solutions that will make them especially happy. The children’s room will become an oasis in which they will be able to live their dreams!
Child’s Room Lighting Ideas
Proper and strong enough lighting is an essential element in creating a general atmosphere of the room, but also to create good conditions for learning. The latest trends have suggested lights that have, because of their size and location, become prominent elements of the interior, and these trends were transferred to the design of children’s rooms. Large chandeliers, accented wall lamps, or LED lighting embedded into furniture are becoming indispensable in decorating children’s rooms. The play with light is additionally highlighted by cubes, colors, and other supporting elements.
A functional and imaginative children’s room will create an environment in which children will love to spend time learning and playing. The overall impression is completed with paintings and sculptures, which children create in the kindergarten, school, or during their free time. Emphasize the identity of the area that belongs only to them and that their creativity deserves admiration and a prominent position. A child’s room should be a mirror of the child’s character and a space that will meet all the functional requirements necessary for good sleep, learning, and play.
