Designed by Oksana Salberg-Vachnadze, Interior Designer from the prestigious O2 Design Moscow Studio, this colorful residential project won the International Property Award in the Interior Design Apartment category.
The designers were asked by the clients, a married couple with a teenage daughter, to decorate their apartment in a prestigious residential complex in Moscow, Russia, near the Sokolniki Park. The owners wanted an interior decorated in a modern and respectable style. The designer created a monochrome color palette firstly, but then the clients expressed a wish for a more vibrant color to be added. This is how this interior space with a striking color scheme, stylish furniture pieces, and impressive contemporary artwork collection came to life.
The neoclassical decorating style and the neutrality of white color served as the starting point of this apartment décor. White cornice moldings create a beautiful contrast when placed next to the colorful modern furniture and add a certain cultural context: such a stylish interior fits every European capital.
The French Allure Is Effortlessly Noticeable in the Boiserie Walls
The apartment’s layout plan is simple and logical: it consists of several rooms (starting from entrance hall, dressing room, and guest bathroom), a large living room and a space that connects the kitchen with the dining room, and two bedrooms – master bedroom with dressing room and the daughter’s bedroom next to which is the library. There is also a lounge next to the kitchen, master bathroom and laundry room, and the hall that unites all the previously mentioned areas.
In the living room area, the color palette of the space consists of bright accents (yellow and blue, gold and green) against the white background of the walls and ceiling. The stylish rug with a print imitating stone is a connection among furniture items: the sofa with colorful decorative cushions, the vibrant yellow armchair and the round coffee table with an openwork metal base, with tempered smoked glass resting on the polished stainless steel base. This simple yet refined coffee table from BOCA DO LOBO, reminding of fine jewelry, this striking furniture piece blends a certain delicacy with its contrasting strong character.
A bit provocative, and with an almost eclectic vibe, this living area shows how perfectly the colors of the modern movement fit into the contemporary style.
The floor lamp Duke from DELIGHTFULL brings the retro appeal to this living room. This retro-styled lamp with brass arms and the white shades pays tribute to the jazz musician Duke Ellington and shines a light on this refined interior.
Placed next to the living area is the equally masterful dining room. A perfect symbiosis of styles and colors, this space is divided into two areas by a console with art deco table lamps. An unusual chandelier, contemporary artwork, and velvet curtains create a sophisticated atmosphere of aristocratic chic.
The Botti chandelier is a great mid-century lighting design, inspired by the American trumpet player as a tribute to jazz music. With a structure handmade in brass and boasting a sophisticated gold-plated finish, this modern ceiling light showcases that the high-quality craftsmanship is the right match for the art deco table lamps.
Wall and ceiling moldings and herringbone parquet flooring are inspired by the Parisian residences. A Venetian mirror and contemporary console are one of the examples of how effortlessly design objects coexist in this stylish interior. The handmade mirror is done in a rare technique of mirror making. This object is unique and can be passed down to the next generation.
A convenient ergonomic kitchen with a kitchen-island is stylistically and color-neutral with its straight lines, light and dark neutral tones and wood accents. It is deliberately not supposed to stand out in an open plan living room/dining room/kitchen area. The breakfast table is neutral and laconic as well. The bright accent of this kitchen is created by vibrant yellow chairs and blue curtains. The kitchen interior effortlessly combines ecological motives with luxurious touches.
The introduction into the apartment décor is the entrance hall. One of the walls and the door slope are “dressed” in mirrors; it adds more air and light to the entering space. An elegant mise en scène in the entrance hall: the console, the painting, neutral-toned vases. The console with a geometric print is designed by Oksana Salberg-Vachnadze herself.
The customized Galliano Wall Lamp from DELIGHTFULL is the cherry on the top for the aesthetic of the entrance hall. The minimalist style of the lamps fits amazingly with the geometric patterns of the console and artwork. Made of iron, the Galliano lamp produces a unique lighting effect when the light is being cast through its pipes.
The corridor is dividing the private and socializing areas of the apartment. The white color scheme and wall moldings make the narrow space visually wider and bigger in general. The accent piece is the Brubeck Wall Lamp also from DELIGHTFULL. This luxurious wall sconce is a statement piece on its own, shining on its own and breaking free from the white walls.
The master bedroom is enveloped in a pale turquoise color of the well-known Tiffany jewelry box. This lovely color is the starting point of the bedroom’s color palette. Purple, orange, and grey furniture pieces and decorative items were chosen to accompany it. Mirrors play a major role in the bedroom’s décor: there is a mirror door slope, a mirror above the bed and mirrored nightstands that reflect the colors of the room.
The master bedroom, view from the entrance. A light hexagonal lamp accentuates the shape of the bay window of the bedroom. In the bay window, there is a tea table with armchairs, the pale turquoise color of which matches the color of the walls to make the room appear more spacious. Orange decorative cushions are a great addition to this vibrant color scheme.
The master bathroom is designed with a deliberate luxury: marble wall panel, black free-standing bathtub and a contrasting black and white floor tile pattern. The unique marble pattern in the bathroom resembles the river current. Copper and gold accessories complete the picture.
The daughter’s bedroom has a comfortable lounge area with many colorful pillows in the bay window. The study area is compact and consists of a small elegant writing desk and a blue work chair. The bright color accents give this bedroom a playful feeling.
Added to the daughter’s room (the permission to add loggias was received from the officials) – a small library was organized there.
