The most prestigious interior fair in the world, Salone del Mobile, in Milan, closed its doors on Sunday, April 9, 2017. In six days it was visited by over 340.000 visitors from 165 countries around the world.
It was marked by a combination of history and future, high-tech technology, and nature. Opposites, connecting the incompatible and exceptional comfort of living are a part of a new trend in housing.
The luxury of colors and materials and their combinations are impressive. Shades of green, from the color of grass to petroleum blue are combined with yellow and red-pink colors. The base color is gray, in all shades. Wood is the dominant material, as well as the natural atmosphere which is introduced by a large amount of greenery on an overly pronounced scale. Metal in the colors of copper, brass, and chrome is an indispensable detail on elements of furniture, which in combination with materials such as glass, wood, plastic, or composite materials provides a stylish and sophisticated atmosphere.
TV cabinets are simple in design but rich in materials and processing. They are accompanied by comfortable sofas with low backrest, on elegant thin legs, following the style of the 50s onwards. Coffee tables are a composition of elements of different dimensions and materials and are dominated by metal and stone. Armchairs are soft and oval in shape, and what is new is that the exterior armchair design fits perfectly into the interior atmosphere. Carpets are faded, abstract in shape, with floral motifs and geometry, and the ethnic motif is still present.
The dining furniture is extremely elegant. The retro note gives dining tables softness and refinement, and this is further contributed by a thin tabletop and sculptural feet of the table. In combining table and chairs there are no more rules, except that the chairs have a low backrest. A combination of styles, materials, and colors is desirable.
Bedrooms are in a retro style – beds have low backrests and are of rounded shapes, and the asymmetry in the lineup of nightstands is still a must. Walk-in closets are often made with glass doors and glass is painted dark or transparent with a glossy effect. Handles are in.
Children’s rooms are dominated by color and oval shapes. As usual, the most important rules are creativity and functionality.
Large size lighting fixtures are a must in every room, whether on the ceiling, walls, or floor-standing ones. As much as the lighting effect itself is important, also essential is the visual appearance of the fixtures during the day. Setups and forms are often such that the lighting fixture can hardly be recognized beyond the creative appearance, but instead, it is more of a sculpture or wall decoration. Ceiling lighting consists of one dominant body of large dimensions or it is made as a composition of elements of different heights.
Outdoor furniture is very similar to the interior so they can be combined and mixed. Metallic elements, coarse knit rattan furniture, techno rattan in trendy colors, and furniture made of rope and plastic, are real refreshments for your eyes and body. They are combined with lots of greenery and high-quality lighting.
56th edition of the Milan Furniture Fair has shown the extreme flexibility of today’s life, casualness, and placing man and his needs at the forefront. The abolition of rules and great freedom in combining styles and materials give the opportunity to all individuals to express themselves and to make their personal attitudes into trends.
