SaloneSatellite, a design event and the launchpad for young creatives, is back in China as part of the third edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai furniture show, presenting design awards to young designers from different parts of the country.
The selection committee was made up of the following design sector professionals – Livio Ballabio, Creative Director, Jumbo Group; Frank Chou, Designer, Frank Chou Design Studio, who took part in SaloneSatellite 2016; Michele De Lucchi, Architect; Wang Gang, Artistic Director, Shanghai Hantang Culture Development; Aurelio Magistà, Journalist, La Repubblica (Italy); Maria Porro, Marketing Manager, Porro; Nuno Soares, Acting Head, Department of Architecture, University of Saint Joseph, Macau; Matteo Urbinati, Design Coordinator, Foscarini; Patrizia Malfatti, Head of Communication and Press Office, Salone del Mobile.Milano; Marva Griffin Wilshire, Founder and Curator, SaloneSatellite.
The winners, selected from among 39 promising young designers from all over China, will be invited to take part in the Milan edition of SaloneSatellite, held under the umbrella of the Salone del Mobile.Milano from 9th to 14th April 2019.
The first prize was won by Huang Jing for the Flapping Bamboo, a lamp that can be converted into a floor or table lamp with different light intensity thanks to the elasticity of bamboo.
The second prize went to Miaoyunzi Hu for the Strings, furniture that has the triple function of the bedside table, sofa side table, and stool and that can easily contain various sized items thanks to flexible and routable rubber ropes.
Ruixue Song took the third prize with Lantern: this lamp can provide two different views of looking and, like a lantern, can be carried with one hand.
Duan Bingdong was awarded a Special Mention for The Chair–18SS, a stool inspired by the military-style so that it can be quickly assembled, and all parts can be quickly replaced.
